SOUR GRAPES

"So, I didn't make the cool group. It doesn't matter. I'm smarter than those people."

Bitter? Sourgraping? Or just seeing the positive things in life?

That's not Engel, by the way. He overheard this at work. This was said in a kinda hopeful tone. But the person looked kinda disappointed and irritated. Hmmm. Funny how body language tends to betray the words and the speaker.

And what's so special with hanging out with the cool people anyway? High school's been over years ago.

Engel really dislikes these kind of co-workers. Whiny. Pessimistic. Irritating. You see, this co-worker is a new hire. One of the very few. Anyway, so on our new unit, where we're all training, almost all of us have been with the company for at least more than a year now. Then here she comes new hire, giving us an attitude.

You might say, she's "feeling close" with everyone. She always bums a stick of cigs during breaks from everyone. And she looks at people as if she's superior than everyone. She hasn't even proven anything to anyone yet. She doesn't even participate in activities.

Engel's not a part of the cool group, and he doesn't really care about cliques since he gets along with everyone (except for that asshat of a colleague). He just found that statement really off. The girl doesn't know everyone, and she judges all just like that. That's just wrong.

Sukdulan na nga ang kapangitan niya. Ang panget pa ng ugali niya.

If people say something bad about us or judge us as if they know us, don't get affected.

Just think: The DOG doesn't bark if it knows the person.

(Just a dose of morning proverbs.)

Some people have an innate need to belong.

But then again who would want a feeling close/negastar in their group?

Engel,

I guess you still haven't learned. High school never really ends. Besides, what would the world be like without hierarchies?

XOXO,
Kane

Well, everyone has a need to belong - some more than others.

But from your story, looks like your new hire wants more than belonging: she wants to be a star!

Kane has a point: high school never really ends. But we can choose to graduate from cliques and trying desperately to gain acceptance.

Besides, one's self-esteem shouldn't hinge exclusively on the approval of others.

Maybe in high school, she was having a hard time joining a group.

Or maybe in high school, she was the center of the crowd.

And now that she's all alone, she's trying her luck to bring back the good all days again.

At work, soloista ako. I can't afford to belong to a group.

' cool is how you define it.. no one has a monopoly of it.. and not because one group is the center of attention or is most popular doesn't necessarily mean they are cool..
- as long as you get along with anyone, you're ok,, and next time she pisses you off, do a serena williams.. tell her you would shove somethin' to her bleeping throat.. =)

despite what anyone says, no one ever escapes high school. you think you're so mature and stuff and then boom. it's completely there when you see people like that. haha

Graduated from high school in 1988. I stopped wanting to be cool long before that. stay out of workplace popularity contests. They are more disguisting than school games...
